The Town of Lebanon has partnered with American Legion Post # 208 and the local VFW to complete the Russell County Veterans Memorial Park. Over 400 Veteran memorial plaques have been placed on the military branch walls. Flag poles with flags for every branch of service have been installed along with lighting. The Town cannon was refurbished to the original color and placed in the park and the American and P.O.W. flag area was created. Community help is needed to complete the park with fencing around the memorial, sidewalk work around and inside the memorial, placement of military service benches, and the completion of the water fall and landscaping. Estimated cost is $20,000. Labor will be provided by the Town.
Tax deductible donations will be accepted at the Lebanon Town Hall. Please contact Jackie Hubbard at (276)889-7200 for additional help or make checks payable to Town of Lebanon – Veteran’s Park and mailed to the Town at PO Box 309 / Lebanon, VA 24266.
Anyone wishing to have a memorial plaque created for the park may pick up an application form at the Lebanon Town Hall or call Jackie Hubbard to request an application by mail. Cost of a plaque is $75.00 and the application must be supported by adequate proof of eligibility as stated in the application.
The Veterans Memorial Park is expected to be completed by 2015.
